Why Kids Love This Colony
The Red Big Head ants are incredibly active and entertaining to watch. Drop food into the living area and watch them rush out, grab it, and drag it back to the nest right away. Kids love seeing this instant action.
The three distinct sizes make it easy for children to identify:
- The large queen
- The big-headed soldiers
- The tiny workers
Easy to Care For
These ants will eat almost anything. You can feed them:
- Leftover kitchen scraps
- Fruits
- Insects
- Sugar water
- Commercial ant food
Perfect for beginners and children - no complicated feeding requirements.
The Habitat: D1 Farm Nest with Small Living Area
The D1 Farm provides a natural digging environment with fine white sand, allowing your ants to excavate their own tunnels. The attached small living area (80 x 65 x 65 mm) gives them space for foraging and feeding.
Key habitat features:
- Digging area: 60 x 80 x 8 mm filled with fine white sand
- Living area: 80 x 65 x 65 mm for feeding and waste
- Two red viewing covers to encourage digging against glass
- Stable humidity system - simply keep water tube filled
- Low maintenance design
Shipping Important Note
For safe shipping, the ants and habitat are packed separately in the same parcel. This prevents sand from collapsing during transport and crushing the ants.
Upon receiving your parcel, please follow these steps:
1. First, set up the habitat: Fill the water tube and wait 8-12 hours for all sand to become moist and solid.
2. Only after the sand is completely moist and firm, introduce your ant colony to the living area.
3. Keep water tube filled at all times.
4. Feed in the living area and watch your ants work.
Never add ants to dry sand - this can cause tunnels to collapse and harm your colony.
Watch your colony grow as they dig tunnels, raise young, and build their new home.
