Jumping spider - Ocrisiona leucocomis – juvenile, 4mm

Jumping spider - Ocrisiona leucocomis – juvenile, 4mm

This is a young specimen of a large jumping spider species. It will grow to 15-17mm as an adult, making it one of the bigger jumpers available.

It has a flattened body with a distinctive white racing stripe running down its dark carapace and abdomen, which helps it camouflage against tree bark. In the wild, it is a crevice-dwelling species, found on trees, in cracks, and under bark.

Native to Australia (North Queensland to Western Australia) and also recorded in New Zealand.

Like all jumping spiders, it has excellent vision and actively hunts small insects. Inquisitive but calm in nature.
