The Complete Expandable System
This is the ultimate setup for ant keepers who want maximum flexibility and space. You get all three sizes of digging farms plus both small and large living areas, allowing you to:
- Create a multi-chamber nest complex with different sized digging areas
- Use the living areas for feeding, foraging, and waste management
- Expand and rearrange as your colony grows
- Customize the layout to suit different species and colony sizes
The last two photos show an example of a multi-nest setup, featuring one D1, one D2, and one D3 connected together, along with both a small and large living area - exactly what you will receive in this set.
Connection Ports for Maximum Flexibility
- D1 and D2 Farm Nests feature two connection ports each for versatile expansion options
- D3 Farm Nest features three connection ports for even more complex setups
- Both living areas include connection ports for easy integration
You can connect all five units together to create one large, connected habitat, or arrange them in multiple smaller configurations to suit your space and your colony's needs.
Key Features and Benefits
Watch the Magic of Digging: Each farm is filled with fine white sand, specially prepared for ants to excavate their own tunnels. It's a captivating view into the hidden world of your colony.
- D1 digging area: 60 x 80 x 8 mm
- D2 digging area: 145 x 95 x 8 mm
- D3 digging area: 170 x 110 x 8 mm
Convenient Living Areas:
- Small Living Area (80 x 65 x 65 mm): Perfect for feeding and as a waste zone for smaller setups
- Large Living Area (175 x 85 x 80 mm): Ample space for foraging, multiple feeding stations, and waste management for larger colonies
Perfect for Small Species: These farms are ideally suited for smaller ant species. I don't recommend them for Dracula ants.
Stable, Self-Maintaining Humidity: Each farm is engineered to maintain a stable, optimal moisture level within the sand. The sand stays damp enough for tunnel stability but not so wet that it endangers your ants.
Why humidity matters: If the sand is too dry, tunnels will collapse. If it's too wet, ants can drown. These farms solve that problem.
Low Maintenance Care: Simply keep the integrated water tubes filled. This passive hydration system does the rest, keeping the sand at the perfect consistency with minimal effort.
Viewing Covers for Easy Observation: Each farm includes two red covers. Place these over the nests to simulate darkness, which encourages your ants to dig and live against the glass sides, giving you a perfect view of their activity. Without the covers, they will likely dig in the center, out of sight.
Quick Start Guide - How to Set Up
1. Prepare the Sand: Do not remove any cotton plugs or connect units yet, or sand will spill. First, fill all water tubes and wait 8-12 hours. This allows the sand to absorb moisture, becoming solid and ready for digging.
2. Plan Your Layout: Decide how you want to arrange your farms and living areas. You can connect them all in a row, create a branching network using the D3's three ports, or set up multiple smaller habitats.
3. Connect: Once the sand is moist and firm, carefully remove cotton plugs and connect the units according to your planned layout.
4. Ongoing Care: Ensure all water tubes are always kept full. Use the living areas for feeding and observe your ants exploring their new environment.
5. Be Patient: It may take your ants 2-7 days to begin exploring and digging into the new nests. They will gradually expand their tunnels before moving the whole colony in.
Colony Capacity: This complete setup can accommodate colonies of various sizes, from small starting colonies up to larger established ones. The combination of three nest sizes and two living areas provides room for significant growth.
